How do you explain the gospel to toddlers and preschoolers?
Often adults are stumped, but Jared Kennedy’s focus on the promises of God makes the gospel come alive to the littlest hearts. Through fifty-two Old and New Testament stories, The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible highlights God’s perfect promises. Every page pops with bright colors, playful illustrations, fun learning opportunities, and, best of all each story points children to Jesus.
Kids know the value of a promise. Through the gospel, our good and all-powerful God keeps his word and fulfills his promises to us better than we could have ever thought or imagined!
In The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible, author Jared Kennedy traces God’s perfect promises through fifty-two Old and New Testament stories, retold in simple and compelling ways with toddlers and preschoolers in mind. Each gospel-centered story highlights God’s tale of redemption through Jesus and the unexpected and surprising ways that God’s grace and mercy are revealed throughout the Bible. Children will hear the good news of God’s love for them clearly expressed in ways that will speak to their young hearts. Brightly colored illustrations highlight the stories and add fun teaching elements of counting, opposites, patterns, and object recognition to keep even the youngest child’s attention. Every story also ends with a question that parents and caregivers can use to further reinforce the message.
Through reading this book one chapter at a time to your children—or letting them read it to you!—even the youngest kids will come to know that God’s promises are especially for them, and that God always keeps his promises.

My Review

This is a book my boys are requesting each night, and seem to be learning something new all the time. The stories are geared to the 3 to 7 year olds, but my ten and eight love them!
We begin with the table of contents, and find how easy it is to find the story you are looking for. Stories included are from both the New and Old Testaments, and total 52 in all.
We trace each of God’s Promises with these stories, and beautiful colorful illustrations are included for enhancement, and each one has a highlighted are to remember these truths.
I am so pleased to have this collection, and love that my boys are requesting it daily! There are a few quirky things, but the boys catch these and make them want more, so we pass over these things and talk about others.

These Healing Hills by Ann H. Gabhart

Francine Howard has her life all mapped out until the soldier she planned to marry at WWII's end writes to tell her he's in love with a woman in England. Devastated, Francine seeks a fresh start in the Appalachian Mountains, training to be a nurse midwife for the Frontier Nursing Service.

Deeply affected by the horrors he witnessed at war, Ben Locke has never thought further ahead than making it home to Kentucky. His future shrouded in as much mist as his beloved mountains, he's at a loss when it comes to envisioning what's next for his life.

When Francine's and Ben's paths intersect, it's immediately clear that they are from different worlds and value different things. But love has a way of healing old wounds . . . and revealing tantalizing new possibilities.

My Review

I really found myself rooting for young Francine Howard as she began her new career as a baby catcher, or midwife, in the mountains of Kentucky.
The author made those mountains so alive with word pictures that I found myself crossing the creeks, and going over the rocks. Such a great story, with the end WWII we are with the veterans and those left behind. Most of all we meet the mountain people and you will really fall in love with some of these unforgettable individuals.
Will our girl end up loosing her heart to these people and maybe someone else, or will her mother get her way and she will go back home to Cincinnati? How about our young soldier and the responsibilities that are now placed on him, will he take advantage of the GI bill, or stay and help family?
I really enjoyed this story, and made me want to move and live here, but that grass usually looks greener on the other side.

Interview with Kathleen Fuller, Exciting News & Giveaways!

Today I'm welcoming noted author Kathleen Fuller to my blog! So pull up a chair and grab your coffee and say Hi!

Lets ask Kathleen some questions!

What interested you in writing Amish fiction? Do you live near the Amish/have
plain relatives?

My interest developed when we moved to Ohio from Arkansas. I was interested in the
culture even before I started writing. When the opportunity to write Amish fiction
became available, I decided to go for it. I don't have any Amish or plain relatives, but I
did make an Amish friend in Middlefield who helped me out with my first books. My
background is actually Eastern Orthodox, although I'm Protestant now. The Anabaptist
faith was something very unfamiliar to me, and I had to research and learn about it in
order to get it right in my stories.

Does your family have any specific Thanksgiving traditions?

My mother-in-law's cornbread dressing. She would make it much better than I do,
though. It's a simple southern recipe that my husband loves.

What keeps you plugging along and motivated when you write?

I love to tell stories. The actual writing of the first draft is really hard for me, but creating
the stories and characters is a lot of fun.

What is your favorite Christmas tradition?

Eating! Actually, I'm serious. We don't have any long-standing traditions in my family,
other than baking and eating Christmas treats. When my kids were young, we used to
bake a cake for Jesus' birthday. That is one tradition I want to keep going.

What are some of your favorite Christmas songs?

I love traditional carols. O Holy Night and O Come Emmanuel are two of my all time
favorites.

Do you plan to write more Amish Christmas books in the future?

Maybe with the current series in writing? I don't have anything Christmas themed in the
pipeline, but I would love to write another Christmas book. They're a lot of fun. In
Words From the Heart (Mar. 2018) Christmas is mentioned, but it's not the center of
the story.

My Review

I have been waiting and wanting to read this book, I’ve read the others and hoping from the past books that Sarah will be returned home, and the reason Nikki Boyd works with the TBI, and now the same things are happening and no answers.
The main characters in this story are different, but unfortunately the happenings are the same. We have two workaholics that seem to love one another, but time after time leave and move on with their lives, will we see them make a commitment, or will they fall victim to evil?
What a compelling read this author has offered us, and you want to read all of the books in this series, there are four, they will keep you coming back for more.
With this read we have the conclusion of the Nikki Boyd saga, but it is going to linger with you and boy do surprises abound, if you like mystery and suspense, don’t miss these!

My Review

The author has created a page tuner here, and I couldn’t put it down, quickly became involved and wondered who was doing the evil acts. Yes, I guessed and guessed wrong, but you will be doing the same with this non-stop action in Amish country, and first impressions are not always right!
I loved being back in Hart County and being updated on past friends, and love has survived! This is a new group, but they are now part of the family, and this story is going to linger with you for a long time.
Be ready for you heart in your throat right from the first few pages, shots being fired at you as you drive your buggy down the road, and then right to the end with your falling into a cave, will all survive?
You don’t want to miss this one, Amish and adventure, family and love of God, so many accidents, or are they?

Then tragedy strikes, and Jamie wants to extinguish any flame between him and Kayla. Can Kayla set aside her own fears to save the love she was determined to deny?

My Review

It was almost as if I were watching this story unfold in slow motion, and found myself yelling “No”, and knew exactly what was going to happen, and having no way to prevent it.
Heartache prevails here, and enough grief to cover everyone, and yet you feel God’s presence and love covering these souls.
Can a seasoned griever help one with new grief, or will they end up helping each other, and that is the hope.
This story shows personal grief, but because we are with the emergency responders, we meet a lot of tragic situations head on. Will working and living in this situation be the catalyst to bring two hurting people together, or the ultimate reason they go their separate ways.

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner

Becoming a Christian is the best and worst thing that has ever happened to Sarah Hollenbeck. Best because, well, that's obvious. Worst because, up to this point, she's made her very comfortable living as a well-known, bestselling author of steamy romance novels that would leave the members of her new church blushing. Now Sarah is trying to reconcile her past with the future she's chosen. She's still under contract with her publisher and on the hook with her enormous fan base for the kind of book she's not sure she can write anymore. She's beginning to think that the church might frown on her tithing on royalties from a "scandalous" book. And the fact that she's falling in love with her pastor doesn't make things any easier.

With a powerful voice, penetrating insight, and plenty of wit, Bethany Turner explodes onto the scene with a debut that isn't afraid to deal with the thorny realities of living the Christian life.

My Review

From the beginning to the end of this book I could feel that the author had placed God’s hand on the main character, took awhile, but it was heart warming adventure.
Forgiveness and turning the other cheek is really shown here, and you are going to be on a wonderful page-turning read once you turn the first page. It isn’t easy to offer forgiveness, and especially when the pain was really offered to hurt someone you love. Great lessons here, from being a new Christian to seasoned, something is about to be learned by all.
Be ready for some really good chuckles, and maybe an old fashioned game of telephone, see how the story comes out, and yes it does seem to change, but the last is awesome.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
